My best friend would say about me...

My best friend knows me like the back of her hand. She would tell you that I am a loyal friend, no matter what life brings. She would describe me as caring, creative, outgoing, and spontaneous. She would tell you that I'm a great person to come to talk to, whether the subject is serious or silly. I'm a very understanding person, and I do not judge others. She would tell you that she can bring me around anyone she knows because I'm able to communicate with any kind of a person. I can turn any awkward moment into a comfortable situation. She would also tell you that I can pull of any look I try to achieve. I love to try new hairstyles on myself all of the time. I love having unique hair, because it enables me to express my personality through my hair. She would let you know that my work ethic is strong as well. My career is so important to me, and I take it very seriously.

I look for inspiration...

I look for inspiration when I attend hair shows. When I first walk into a show, I get this overwhelming feeling of excitement, like a kid in a candy store. I love being in a huge venue with people who share the same passion, hair. I'm able to network with other hairdressers from around the country. Success is always inspiring, so to be around some of the most successful hairdressers motivates me. I make sure to meet and make as many connections as possible. I always make sure to watch as many classes and demonstrations from all my favorite stylists and companies.  All of the models walking around with cascading curls, eye catching colors, edgy and fierce haircuts gives me new ideas to bring home too. I love learning about new products too, because you can never have too many products. They help emphasize the looks I want to give my clients. I bring all of my inspirations from the hair shows, and let the creativity start flowing.

"Do whatever you want!"

My favorite kind of client is the kind that comes in and says, "do whatever you want!" My client Amanda is great and always gives me freedom with her hair. She has a really unique style and likes to express herself through her hair. She's edgy, feminine, and sassy. Her a-symmetrical haircut frames her pretty face perfectly. This haircut is versatile because she has the option of showing off her face with the shorter side, and if she wants she can also pull more hair towards her face with the longer side for a different look. Her blonde hair is striking and makes a statement!

To be a hairdresser...

A hairdresser is much more than someone who just cuts and colors hair. Cutting and coloring hair is a form of art. I'm an artist and I take a lot of pride in my profession. My clients are my pieces of art. My job is to create a hairstyle that best suites my client's face, body, and lifestyle.
I choose a haircut that my client requests and I create a style that frames their face. I make their haircut stand out from any ordinary cut by giving them more emphasis on the most beautiful features on their face such as the eyes, nose, or lips. When coloring hair, I first listen to all of my clients desires, then we both agree on a color that best suits their style. I then create a color that satisfies my clients wishes while enhancing their eye color, and skin tone. I accent the point of emphasis of the haircut with my color placement as well.
Ultimately at the end of the day the most important part of my job is to fulfill my clients hair needs. The most gratifying feeling I get from my job is when my client leaves my chair feeling happy and confident with their new look.

Journey of a lifetime...

If I was fortunate enough to be chosen for this internship, I would take full advantage of the entire experience. To have the chance to work with Matrix Artistic designers is the chance of a lifetime! Being taken to salons and events all around the country would give me so much more knowledge about hair for various reasons.
Meeting other hairdressers around the country would open so many doors for me. I would learn new techinques, styles, and trends. Also, traveling around the country will help me have a better understanding of different cultures because not everyone is the same. I believe it is important to understand different cultures because each culture has their own identity. To be able to express those identities is what I love to do through hair. I enjoy connecting with stylists who share the same passion because we can always elaborate on creating something more beautiful and better. People I have followed to mentor me are my biggest inspirations. So to be taught by stylists who have so much knowledge about hair would be incredible.
I would share the knowledge I would receive from this experience. It is wonderful that I will be able to document this journey on the internet. I will be able to share what I've learned and inspire other stylists. I want to be able to make other hairdressers get more excited about hair.
After this experience I want to be able to make a name for myself. It has been a dream of mine to become a platform artist. I want to be able to confidently teach a room full of people how to make their clients look and feel great. Learning from the best would help me get closer to my dreams!
I'm obsessed with hair, and I want to be able to learn the ins and outs of this industry. I would be absolutely honored to work with Matrix.

Pink hair, Don't care!

It's always fun to change your hair. I think it's important to have your own identity and your hair is a feature that expresses your personality. So I decided to dye my hair pink! Pink is a beautiful color and so feminine. I've been seeing pastel colored hair a lot lately. Lady Gaga was an inspiration, she has had her all different shades of pastels, pinks, baby blues, and lavenders. It's an interesting color because usually pink is striking, but its soft and subtle. So subtle that it almost seems natural.

Spread The Love

My teacher from cosmetology school informed me about an internship for new cosmetologists with Matrix. I applied for the internship and I've made it to the second round! I'm so excited. I'm always open to new experiences, so I hope I'm fortunate enough to be chosen.

Ginger

So my best friend and I are obsessed with this show called True Blood. We've always been in love with the character, the Queen of Louisiana because she has the most gorgeous red hair. She wanted me to do her hair just like hers. She began as a blonde, and I turned her into a hot red head! I made her a ginger in two processes. I first began by filling her blonde hair in, she was a level 8 with level 11 ends. I put an 8G on her light ends so that when I put the red in her hair the ends wouldn't be bright red. After, she turned into a nice golden blonde. I weaved in some shades that were one level lighter and darker of the red base color I chose. I weaved in 7X Scarlet, and 8CG, and I used 7CG and 6RC together for the base color. I'm really happy with how it came out. The high lights and low lights contrasted well with the base color. It really gave the whole color a lot of depth and looks rich, vibrant, and full of color! I also think I did a great job of making her look like the Queen too. Here's a photo of what Chelsea looked like as a blonde, then her as a red head. Then the last picture is of our inspiration.

SF for the weekend.

So, I met up with Laura to work with her to start creating some work for our portfolios. She is such an awesome person to work with. I've got so many ideas and inspirations for us do in the future. Our first shoot was a glamours vampire. Our model was awesome, she had the most perfect vampire fangs! I did her hair and make up. Here's a sample, hopefully more photos soon.

Networking...

I met this really awesome lady in the Hilton a few weeks ago. She and I started talking and had so many interests in common! She's a photographer and an acting teacher at the community college. So we ended up swapping each others information. A couple days later she contacted me and asked if I would like to start doing make up and hair on the models in her photo shoots. I said YES of course! I have wanted to start creating a portfolio of my work anyway, so this is a perfect opportunity. I would love to one day do hair or make up for high fashion ads or the runway. Plus, the experience will be beneficial for me. The first thing she asked of me was to look at ads in fashion magazines and choose which pictures express the kind of work I would like to do. So here are some of the ads I picked out...

1st Blog! :)

So, I decided to create this blog, so I can express my passions, inspirations, and motivations.  I'm a hair dresser, and I love my job. I genuinely love to go to work every day! I have enjoyed being in the beauty industry so much that I have expanded my knowledge and I do esthetician work as well. I have been a licensed cosmetologist for a little over a year now. I work in at salon, Villa 2000 and a day spa, Thyme Out. One thing I love about both of my jobs is that there's always something new to learn...the beauty industry keeps growing.
